Briefing on the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-10) to the Basel Convention

Background

The tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, from 17 to 21 October 2011.

The theme of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention is “Prevention, minimization and recovery of wastes”.

Objectives

The objective of the webinar is to enable Parties and observers to be fully prepared for the discussions and negotiations of the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-10) to the Basel Convention.

The webinar will cover the following topics:

• Items to be considered by COP-10 to the Basel Convention, namely ;

New Strategic Framework, Indonesian-Swiss Country Led Initiative to improve the effectiveness of the Convention, Basel Convention Regional Centres (BCRCs), Implementation and Compliance Committee, Programme of work and budget for 2012-2013, enhanced cooperation and coordination among the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and Partnerships and Capacity Building

• Organisation of work of the meeting.
