Meeting of Senior Advisory Group of Experts to the Executive Secretary on exploring the economic potential of the waste-resource interface.

A meeting of a Senior Advisory Group of Experts to the Executive Secretary was convened from 18 to 19 January 2011 to explore the economic potential of the waste-resource interface. The Advisory Group was composed of a small number of recognized experts in different areas related to the waste-resource interface. Convened as a "think tank", the composition of the Group was determined on the basis of expertise rather than professional or institutional affiliation.

The Group advised the Executive Secretary on possible practical ways in which the Basel Convention could strengthen the waste to resource linkage. Following the meeting, the Executive Secretary drafted a non-paper outlining her vision of this paradigm shift from waste to resources and highlighting some of the key recommendations resulting from the Group.
